BIBA secures Trade Association Best Practice Award
by Gill Montia
The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) has won the Sector Representation Award at the Trade Association Forum Best Practice Awards.
The Forum exists to provide access to information about UK trade associations and business sectors.
In making the best practice awards, its judges were looking for a campaign, initiative or legal matter that ended with a measurable and conclusive result.
BIBA has received the accolade in recognition of its work to overturn the exemption of travel agents from Financial Services Authority (FSA) regulations on the sale of travel insurance.
The association lobbied on behalf of its members, which it claimed were disadvantaged by the omission.
It also commissioned research showing public demand for the regulation of insurance sellers and after consultation with the Treasury, questions were raised in parliament.
From the beginning of this year, the FSA has begun regulating travel agents selling insurance and BIBA has been working with the authority to develop the new rules.
The judges were impressed by the coordinated management of the campaign and its notable success.
BIBA also appeared as a finalist in the Conference Award, Exhibition Award, Magazine of the Year Award and Electronic Communication Award categories.
