Aon Corporation has elected Lester Knight to serve as non-executive chairman.

Knight is a managing partner and founder of RoundTable Healthcare Partners, a private equity business that concentrates upon healthcare.

Earlier in his career he served as chief executive officer and chairman of Allegiance Corporation.

Knight has held the post of independent director since 1999, and his election sees him replace Patrick Ryan.

Ryan was a founder, and served as executive chairman of Aon. He is to retire on 1 August of this year.

Ryan has stated his belief that the firm is well-placed for the future and enjoys good prospects moving forward.

He went on to congratulate Knight on his appointment, describing him as an excellent choice who would ensure good collaboration between the board and management of Aon.
