Willis has announced the appointment of Gary Schmalzriedt as the firm’s new chairman of Willis Re.

Willis Re is the reinsurance branch of Willis, and Schmalzriedt’s appointment as its chairman takes place with immediate effect.

He brings an enormous amount of experience to the role, having accumulated more than four decades of experience during his lengthy career.

During his working life he has worked for AIG for 18 years, and held a range of senior positions with ACE, amongst others.

Willis’ chief executive officer and chairman, Joe Plumeri, has stated his belief that with Schmalzreidt’s extensive experience ,Willis Re will continue to grow into the future.

Willis Re’s chief executive officer, Peter Hearn, has added his own tribute, praising Schmalzriedt as a tremendous addition to the firm.
