Cooper Gay & Co Ltd has opened a new facultative and treaty reinsurance broking operation in Miami.

The operation has been opened to provide a better service to the firm’s pre-existing and expanding network of group offices in Latin America.

Moving from Cooper Gay’s London office to the new Miami operation are Richard Stark and Mike Hernandez, both of whom have extensive experience in placing Latin American businesses into the global marketplace.

Stark and Hernandez will be tasked not only with supporting Cooper Gay’s network requirements, but also with providing reinsurance solutions to local carriers and placing business into Miami’s market.

Miami is becoming ever more important as a hub for Latin American reinsurance, according to chief executive officer James Summers.

Managing director of Latin America, Steve Jackson, has welcomed Stark and Hernandez to their new positions.
