Liberty International Underwriters has named its new managing director for Continental Europe as Gerard van Loon.

In addition to his new position as MD, Van Loon also assumes a place on the London-based Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe Ltd (LMIE) board.

He joined the firm seven years ago to take up the post of D&O underwriting manager, more lately ascending to the position of senior vice president of D&O and Financial Institutions.

In his new role leading operations in Europe, he will be charged with the development and enactment the strategy for specialty lines provided through LIU’s European branches.

Van Loon will retain his responsibility for managing the D&O and Financial Institutions in London, and will report directly to Sean Rocks, Europe CEO.
