W. R. Berkley Corporation has announced the establishment of Berkley Asset Protection Underwriters, LLC.

The New York-based business will deal with commercial and personal assets, providing a wide range of products to protect them.

Berkley Asset Protection Underwriters will underwrite for StarNet Insurance Company and Gemini Insurance Company, both of which are member companies of W. R. Berkley Corporation.

StarNet will be provided underwriting on an admitted basis, whereas Gemini will be given it on a surplus lines basis.

Berkley Asset Protection Underwriters’ president has been named as Joseph Dowd, who brings with him over two decades of asset protection experience.

Gregory Smith assumes the role of executive vice president, and is an expert in fine art claims with more than 20 years of industry experience.

Two vice presidents have been named: Sean Missal and Nicholas Reynolds. Between them they have over 30 years of experience.

W. R. Berkley Corporation’s chairman and CEO, William R. Berkley, has expressed his pleasure at bolstering the firm with the quartet of senior appointments.
