Direct Line has expanded its Direct Line for Business brand with the launch of a policy aimed at owners of small hotels, guesthouses and bed & breakfast establishments.

Applicants will need to be operating from one property and providing accommodation in a maximum of 12 rooms.

Cover includes public and products liability of up to £2 million as standard, and up to £500,000 for loss of income.

A number of additional features are available, including personal accident cover and loss of licence.

Since the beginning of the year, Direct Line has launched a range of products aimed at small businesses, including cover for home businesses, offices, surgeries, pubs and restaurants.

The insurer forms part of the Royal Bank of Scotland group, which is currently considering the sale of various assets, including its insurance business.

The bank’s capital ratio is low because of the credit crisis and its acquisition of Dutch bank, ABN Amro, at the end of last year. Its entire insurance business, which includes Churchill, is estimated to be worth around £4 billion.

AIG, Allianz, Axa and Generali are all reported to have shown an interest.
