Esure upgrades bonus protection

Esure, the online insurer, is upgrading its standard no-claims discount protection on motor policies to provide “protection for life”, meaning drivers can retain the benefits of a no claims discount regardless of the number of claims made during the life of their policy.

In researching the area of no-claims bonus protection, Esure found that 37% of drivers were unaware that there is normally a set limit to the number of claims they can make before their no claims bonus is affected.

Few insurers provide unlimited “at fault” claims on a bonus protected policy. A standard clause would allow for one “at fault” claim in the first year and a maximum of two claims over three years.

“At fault” claims are not necessarily a sign of a poor driver. For example, vandalism and damaged caused to a vehicle when the driver is absent can result in a claim where no recovery can be made.

Esure is promoting its “protection for life” cover as providing peace of mind for both new and existing customers; policyholders with standard discount protection will automatically be upgraded to the new cover from 20th April.

Currently, around 38% of drivers with over four years of accident free motoring do not opt for bonus protection.
