Motorists using mobiles face price hike

Drivers caught using their mobile phone whilst on the move could be hit with a large premium price rise of 30%.

Allianz Insurance is to deal with those found guilty of using a mobile phone whilst driving in the same manner as those found guilty of dangerous driving.

This replaces the old policy, under which mobile phone usage was considered equivalent to a speeding offence.

A plethora of motorists could be affected by the change, with 10% confessing in an Allianz survey to using a mobile whilst on the move.

According to Neil Walker, Allianz’s motor manager, the change in tack is because the firm wishes to reinforce the message that not only is using a phone at the wheel unnecessary, it is also dangerous.
