BUPA International, which provides health insurance for expatriates worldwide, is improving the cover provided under its Lifeline policy.

In cases of chronic disease, new customers will not only be covered for diagnosis but also for the control of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and asthma, all of which are becoming more prevalent.

Diabetes in particular is increasingly present in developed countries, the type-two variety being linked to obesity.

Health charity, Diabetes UK, estimates that three million Britons now suffer from the disease, while in France the figure is estimated at two-and-a-half million.

The insurer has made further enhancements to its Lifeline cover, including increased outpatient benefits and better cover for pathology, x-rays and diagnostic tests.

Policyholders will continue to have access to more than 5,500 hospitals and clinics worldwide, and Bupa International’s 24 hour helpline.

Existing Lifeline customers will have their cover upgraded at renewal to include the cost of drugs, consultations and treatment for the control of chronic conditions.
