LFC Insurance Group, the commercial broker based in South-East England, has acquired R S Hayworth & Co Ltd, which trades as Shield Policies.

Shield was set up as an underwriting agency in 1923 and operates from offices at Feering, near Colchester.

It sells its range of SME targeted commercial policies through around 200 agents across the UK. It also writes business directly for certain niche trades.

The firm will now trade as LFC Shield, and Jerry Clayton, group managing director, says: “As far as LFC Shield clients are concerned, we will, with the willing support from our insurer partners, be able to offer them significant cover improvements, while still being highly competitive on premiums and with no compromise on service.”

Adding: “This acquisition will move our gross written premium towards our 2008 target of £30 million and means that we will be operating from three sites in Essex, in addition to our Sussex operation.”
