Terminal 5 woes could be mitigated by travel insurance

The huge problems that have greeted the opening of Heathrow’s Terminal 5 have been well-documented, but the troubles are even more dire for those lacking travel insurance.

MORE TH>N has released figures stating that, as of Wednesday, over 200 flights have been cancelled and tens of thousands of luggage have been mislaid.

Unfortunate travellers have had to endure cost and great inconvenience as problems surround the £4.3bn Terminal.

However, those with comprehensive travel insurance are able to claim for delays and lost luggage, in addition to flight cancellations and the costs of acquiring accommodation.

Although airlines will cover all passengers for certain things, such as refunds or alternative bookings for missed flights travel insurance offers broader coverage.

MORE TH>N’s travel insurance manager, Graham Nicholls, explains that it is best to carry valuable objects in hand luggage as many insurers don’t cover goods held in the hold.
