PruHealth has conducted research which reveals that British women, far from succumbing to short-term diet fads, are tending to make longterm lifestyle changes when attempting to become slimmer.
Over two-thirds of women begin diets at the start of the year, with a third of them considering it to be a permanent process as opposed to a temporary phase.
The number one reason for a dietary effort failing is due to craving for a favourite forbidden food, most typically sugar-laden snacks.
Exercising on a regular basis was seen as a much easier habit to keep, with only a tenth failing to maintain regular appointments at the gym or alternative exercising regimes.
Importantly, there seems to be an underlying change in the reasons for dieting, with 35% of women questioned citing a desire for better general health as the primary reason.
Prudential Health Insurance is one of a number of health insurers who offer incentives to its policyholders to behave in a healthier fashion, such as discounts for gym membership.
