Liberty International Underwriters (LIU), a division of Liberty Mutual Group, the US property and casualty insurer, has appointed Jonathan Powell to its Bristol office as Regional Assistant Vice President, Casualty.

Mr Powell is transferring from Liberty’s Melbourne office in Australia, where he has been working as National Excess & Umbrella portfolio manager and a senior liability underwriter.

He began his career in insurance 20 years ago with Eagle Star Insurance Group, thereafter moving to Willis to work in broking development.

Mr Powell joined Liberty’s Dublin office in 2001 as a Senior Casualty Underwriter.

Commenting on the appointment, Paul Kurgo, LIU’s Head of UK and Ireland Commercial business, said: “The appointment of Jonathan Powell to our Bristol office significantly boosts our regional casualty underwriting capability and supports our drive for growth in the UK regions. Jonathan’s underwriting expertise and knowledge of Liberty’s international operations makes him a great asset to the UK business and to our clients.”
