The dangers posed by smoking to your health are not the only risks cigarettes cause, according to Fairinvestment.co.uk.
The website has concluded that the unhealthy habit can also create financial dangers, in addition to the well-publicised health issues.
More than £2,000 per annum is spent on cigarettes by a twenty a day smoker.
James Caldwell, the website’s director, explains that this means smokers are significantly less well off in terms of disposable income putting them at a disadvantage when it comes to paying back loans and mortgages.
Naturally, smokers are also less attractive propositions for health and life insurance, another source of increased cost.
Perhaps less obviously, smokers can also face higher premiums for car insurance, as their habit is seen as a distraction.
Tomorrow is both National No Smoking Day, and Budget Day. With an emphasis on green taxes and squeezed public finances, it is highly unlikely that taxes on cigarettes will be lowered.
