Zurich has appointed six new staff members as part of its drive to become a leading light in the marine cargo market.

The firm’s recently created marine cargo division will be headed by Alan Wilkins, who leaves behind the post of regional underwriting and development manager for CNA.

Guy Smith, formerly of Aon, also joins as a marine underwriter, with the other appointments all following Wilkins from CNA.

The new recruits to Zurich will be based in its offices in Birmingham, Leeds and London.

As the business expands further appointments would be made, Wilkins has said.

Globally, Zurich’s marine business has a value of £344m, much of which is cargo.

Broker division managing director Dave Smith explained that the new team will quickly enable the firm to possess expertise and experience and thus expand their market presence in the area.
