Over a quarter of motorists not covered for flooding

Story link: Over a quarter of motorists not covered for flooding

The Association of British Insurers has conducted research revealing that a ninth of all insurance claims from the summer flooding of last year were for car insurance.

The revelation has led to calls for motorists to check their policies.

The recent spate of fresh flood warnings issued by the Environment Agency and the prospect of even more turbulent weather for the UK has meant that motorists are advised only to complete journeys that are necessary.

The areas thought to be most affected include the south and west of England.

Hayley Parsons , gocompare.com’s MD, has said that up to nine million people could at risk, should they be covered only for third party, fire and theft policies and leaving flood damage uninsured.

Over a quarter of all British motorists could be affected.

Comprehensive cover, which does cover flooding, is more expensive but ultimately worth it unless the vehicle involved is of very low value.
