Laurent Matras has been named by Groupama Insurances as the firm’s new managing director.

His appointment should be effective from 1 April this year, pending FSA approval.

Previously Matras was the finance director of AXA UK and AXA PPP.

In his new role he will be responsible for seeing through the strategic direction of the firm and achieving its business aims.

Groupama Insurances’ chief executive officer, François-Xavier Boisseau, has expressed his pleasure at Matras’ appointment, describing the new managing director as someone with strong leadership skills.

Boisseau also praised Matras’ knowledge and experience of the UK insurance market and his high degree of expertise.

Matras has described his appointment as a terrific opportunity, adding that he looked forward to working once more with François-Xavier Boisseau.
