Towergate Wilsons, a specialist in military insurance and part of the Towergate Partnership, has launched an Officer’s Legal Protection policy (OLP).

The move reflects changes in employment law that increase the likelihood of members of HM forces suing the Crown.

Military officers are responsible for implementing and monitoring the new requirements and failure to do so could lead to a tribunal or court case.

Officer’s Legal Protection cover costs £1 per week and provides up to £25,000 in compensation, where the insured may be deemed to be responsible and has to attend a court hearing at his or her own expense.

The policy also provides cover for the defence of a policyholder’s legal rights if, for example, an event arising from their duties as an officer leads to a disciplinary hearing.

The cover is effective regardless of the cause of the event and is designed to complement existing legal liability cover.

Towergate Wilsons has been providing dedicated insurance support to HM Forces for over fifty years and according to Rod Breeze, the company’s managing director: “This final piece of the jigsaw completes the picture. OLP provides the necessary protection against today’s compensation culture at a very low cost.”
