Following Christmas, the Fair Investment Company has repeated the message that pets are for life, not just for Christmas, and as such pet insurance is a necessity to ensure that a new pet gets the care it needs.

David Doulton, the organisation’s director, has urged people to get comprehensive insurance for their pets.

Vet’s bills can be highly expensive, he warns, but pet insurance is far more affordable and will provide a pet with the medical it needs when it needs it.

There is a broad range of pet insurance available, from the high street to the supermarket. Browsing is highly recommended as time limitations, cost, and coverage all vary greatly from provider to provider. Some even offer to cover wanted posters and a reward should a pet go missing.

Counselling services are sometimes offered, which can be particularly helpful if a pet dies at a young age and children need help understanding exactly what has happened.

Coverage can vary from basic packages to fully comprehensive coverage, and certain optional extras may be offered. Overall, pet insurance is highly flexible and can be taken out to suit the precise circumstances and desires of the policyholder.

A number of discounts are often available, typically for purchasing insurance online, and sometimes for insuring multiple pets with a single provider.
