UIIC Agrees IT Contract With SSP Holdings
Expanding Asian insurer United India Insurance has today announced it is to award its IT support contract to SSP Holdings in what has been described as a landmark award within the insurance industry.
The move today will see SSP in consortium with Hewlett Packard providing IT services across the insurer’s expansive domestic operations in India, in a move that has been described as ground breaking given the size and reach of the insurer. Microsoft will also become involved in the arrangement, providing support to the IT services.
The contract has been signed for the duration of seven years, and it is thought to be valued at around $2.4 million, including support services and maintenance fees. HP will take responsibility overall for delivery of the services, whilst SSP will provide the specialist insurance software and systems development.
Speaking today on the move, David Rasche of SSP expressed his delight at being selected for the role. “We are very pleased to have been selected for this major contract, without doubt one of the most significant international agreements in the insurance marketplace in 2007.”
“The Indian market is undergoing substantial change; to be at the forefront of this change in partnership with HP and Microsoft is a huge endorsement of the SSP product and strategy and represents a material extension of our geographic footprint.”
Meanwhile finance director of UIIC Raju Sharan said the move was part of its growing drive for change in the growing Indian insurance market. “UIIC has a desire to transform the way insurance business is transacted in India and has selected SSP to act as a catalyst for this exciting change. We look forward to working in partnership to achieve this ambition.”
