Shazia Aslam Rafique has been appointed to the position of Assistant Vice President for Marine, Energy and Construction by Liberty International Underwriters (LIU).
Rafique will begin her new role in early 2008, working from the firm’s Dubai office in an effort to boost the firm’s business in the Middle East. She will report directly to Elie Bouchaaya, the Middle East Regional Manager.
She will be responsible for improving LIU’s Oil and Gas product line in addition to boosting the profitability of the regional Marine, Energy and Construction division.
LIU’s CEO, Sean Rocks, described the appointment as an important move in the firm’s Middle East growth plans.
Michael Gosselin, Senior Vice President for Marine, Energy and Construction at LIU in London, added that he believed Rafique’s expertise in the complex areas of risk would be of great benefit, especially as Dubai’s significance as a global market continues to grow.
Rafique has worked for the firm since August 2003, beginning as an underwriter tasked with supporting growth and development in the OGPC (Oil, Gas, Petrochemicals and Chemicals) division.
She has over a decade’s worth of experience in the financial services industry.
