Helen Pickford has been named by Fortis as the firm’s new finance director.

In her new position Pickford will be responsible for all facets of finance, collaborating closely with Julian Harvey, the chief financial officer.

In addition to this she will become a member of the Fortis Insurance Board, and as such she will have a strong role to play in the development and deliverance of the firm’s strategy.

Fortis will benefit from Pickford’s great experience in the industry, which she has worked in for nigh on 15 years.

She leaves behind a post as finance director of Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group, during which time she had responsibility for the retail and affinity businesses in the UK. Earlier in her career she was group head of investor relations, as which she saw a substantial improvement in both the reputation and the share price of the firm.

Pickford has said she is delighted to join Fortis, as the firm is known for its high standards, and has said she is looking forward to developing strategic projects for the firm.

Barry Smith, chief executive, welcomed Pickford to her new position and praised her as a great asset.
