Alexander Baugh has been appointed by AIG to serve as its new UK managing director.

Baugh succeeds Daniel Glaser, who was yesterday named as the new global head of Marsh.

Prior to his appointment Baugh has served as AIG’s Europe, SA president and as president of the American International Underwriters’ (AUI) continental Europe region.

Baugh’s new role will see him take responsibility for all AUI’s general insurance operations in the UK and Ireland.

Elsewhere in the firm Julio A Portalatin will take on Baugh’s old position of president of AIG Europe, SA, and president of AIU’s continental European region.

Portalatin was formerly AIG’s senior vice president, a role taken on by Jose A Hernandez, presently the firm’s chief operating officer of AIU’s accident & health division.

The executive vice president, Foreign General Insurance and president, American International Underwriters, Nicholas Walsh, has described all three men as having proven leadership skills fostered within the AIG management structure.

AIG president and chief executive officer, Martin Sullivan, explained that the presence of such talented individuals exhibited the firm’s depth of management.
