Santa not insured for sleigh ride

| November 30, 2007 | 0 Comments

A traditional ride in his “sleigh” by Santa this year will be cancelled – due to lack of insurance coverage.

The traditional sleigh ride around Alnwick and surrounding Northumberland villages has been a feature for three decades.

However, Alnwick Council have been informed that their motor insurance will not cover the event this year.

According to Alnwick Council press office Judith Draycott, this is because pulling Santa at the back of a council vehicle does not form a part of their core business.

Volunteer group, Alnwick Lions, which organises the Santa event, have therefore had to make last minute changes to the sleigh ride.

A bus provided by a local company will now transport Santa around the local villages, and drive Santa into the 21st century.
