Four individuals have been arrested by Merseyside Police, as part of a continuing investigation into motor insurance fraud.

The case began when Allianz Insurance contacted the police when they noticed a concerning number of claims coming from an area within Merseyside that were connected to a communications company.

It is alleged that the offenders took place in faking accident claims in 2005.

DI Alyson Wilson described the crime as unscrupulous, explaining that such actions costs everyone with insurance by raising premiums needlessly.

Mihir Pandya, the fraud manager for Allianz, described the firm’s policy against fraud as pro-active, with teams ready specifically to counter organised attempts at fraud. Pandya went on to say that they had collaborated closely with the Insurance Fraud Bureau since its inception in 2006 praising the Bureau for their helpfulness and calling for the entire insurance industry to work together to stamp out fraud.

The Bureau’s chairman, John Beadle, highlighted the operation as a prime example of the success that can be achieved when the public and private sectors co-operate closely.

The suspects, three men and a woman, were all arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud, and all have been granted bail.
