Tim Burrows, the underwriting director of Catlin, is to retire at the end of the year, it has been announced.

He joined the firm in 2006 as a group underwriting director after Catlin acquired Wellington Underwriting plc. Earlier he had worked in Wellington, joining in 1991 as a divisional underwriter for the energy account and serving in other positions including director and chief underwriting officer.

Burrows’ career in insurance began in 1971, in the English and American Marine Group.

For 36 years Burrows has worked in the industry, but on 1 January 2008 he will take up the role of non-executive director for the combined boards of Catlin Underwriting Agencies Limited (CUAL) and Catlin Insurance Company (UK) Limited (Catlin UK).

In his retirement he will also have a position as consultant for Catlin Syndicate and Catlin UK.

Catlin Group Limited’s chief executive, Stephen Catlin, expressed his appreciation on behalf of the entire firm to Burrows’ contribution over the last nine months, adding that he was delighted Burrows’ experience and knowledge would remain at the firm’s disposal following retirement.

CUAL is responsible for managing the Catlin Syndicate at Lloyd’s, which had the largest premium capacity (in 2007) of any syndicate.

Catlin UK specialises in commercial insurance, excepting life insurance, for UK clients via its regional offices.
