Brit Insurance’s hull underwriter, Simon Stonehouse, has been elected chairman of the Joint Hull Committee (JHC), which represents the London underwriters for marine hull issues.
Stonehouse will replace the senior underwriter of Ark Syndicate Management Limited, Peter McIntosh, who is stepping down from the position for chairman after three years in the role, though he will remain a member of the JHC.
A more energetic, proactive approach and co-operation with the global marine community is the plan that Stonehouse will seek to see through in order to ensure that London’s marine hull issues are properly represented.
He also wishes to improve the service offered in London for marine claims.
Stonehouse expressed his desire to see an improved service, including a broader and more tailored programme of educational briefings and seminars and to increase the dissemination of useful information.
McIntosh described the JHC’s work as both rewarding and challenging, and stated his confidence in the new chairman, whose knowledge and passion he believes will prove invaluable assets for the position.
