New supervisor education project announced by IAIS
A new education project created to improve supervisors’ knowledge of regulation and supervision has been announced by the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS).
Emerging markets will be the focus for the IAIS, which is seeking to harmonise supervisory regimes for insurance and increase the stability of financial services. The educational project will be delivered both practically and through e-learning and will cover the most important areas of insurance supervision.
The project will be launched by the IAIS’ Executive Committee chair Michel Flamée in Beijing, on 15 January 2008.
Preceding the official launch will be two days of pilot training for supervisors from Asian areas, and panels tasked with improving the supervision within insurance markets.
Participants are expected to include senior insurance supervisors, academics and leaders from the international insurance industry.
The Chair of the Implementation Committee, Manuel Aguilera, explained that the project will allow the Core Curriculum for Insurance Supervisors, developed by the IAIS in cooperation with the World Bank, to be effectively delivered.
The project will be funded by voluntary contributions and supported by the skills of IAIS members and international groups.
