Ascot Renewco, Ascot Underwriting’s renewable energy division, has enhanced its team with the addition of Professor Leon Freris and Captain Peter Hodgetts to its management board.

The chief executive of Ascot Renewco, David Wright, explained that renewable energy involves a wide array of differing technologies and environments which leads to a constantly evolving industry. The two latest appointments, he said, were made to ensure that the firm’s broad knowledge base remained second to none.

Professor Freris was one of the men responsible for the creation of CREST (Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology) in 1995, at Loughborough University.

He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and a founder of British Wind Energy Association and well-known as an authority in the field who was published a number of books about renewable energy.

Captain Peter Hodgetts founded, and is operations director of, SeaRoc UK, a firm that specialises in marine and engineering and focuses exclusively upon marine renewables. He has extensive experience in offshore construction and is a skilled mechanical engineer and talented mariner.

Martin Reith, CEO of Ascot Underwriting, described the new members of the firm as being extremely experienced and said that they would prove highly useful as they would boost the firm’s technological understanding and risk appreciation, setting new standards for the industry.
