Lawyers have condemned the House of Lords’ decision to end any further compensation being paid out to sufferers of pleural plaques.

The president of of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), Martin Bare, has expressed deep sympathy and sadness for victims of pleural plaques and his disappointment that the Lords had failed to fully comprehend the trauma and suffering caused by the condition.

Bare stated his disbelief that individuals exposed to asbestos by negligent employers could be described as not being injured for the purposes of compensation, and added that although insurers will celebrate this verdict it has been arrived at at the expense of victims who once had faith in the justice system.
