Cheaper premiums for drivers with Pass Plus

Swinton has announced this week that it will slash 35% from their annual insurance premium for those who have recently passed their test if they do the six hours extra training necessary to acquire a Pass Plus certificate.

Other insurers who offer discounts to drivers with Pass Plus include AA, BSM, Co-op, Direct Line, Privilege, Tesco and Zurich.

Steve Chelton, the firm’s insurer development manager, has said that students are already under financial pressure when they start going to college or university, and Swinton’s 35% discount could save them a lot of money as well as improving their driving skills

The DSA’s deputy chief driving examiner, Nigel Harries, explained the reasoning behind the Pass Plus. Newer drivers are most at risk, he said, and the Pass Plus enables them to gain valuable experience on a motorway, assisted by a qualified instructor.

The Pass Plus and its value has been recognised by a number of local authorities who offer promotions or discounts to those who have attained it.

To get the certificate drivers must drive for at least six hours in a variety of settings, including around town, on rural roads, in adverse weather, on dual carriages and motorways and at night.
