An online fleet risk management service, named Brit Risk Management, has been launched in the UK by Brit Insurance Holdings.

The service has been formulated to give fleet risk managers support and advice that is both innovative and comprehensive, according to the insurer.

Brit Fleet Insight will be one component of the newly created online service, and consists of state of the art telematics technology able to update fleet operators about accidents and other driving incidents as and when they occur.

Using Insight, each vehicle will be fitted with a small ‘black box’ able to monitor a variety of functions such as speed, direction and location. Should a unit register a force of greater than 1G, suggesting a collision, the fleet manager will automatically receive a text or e-mail appraising them of the situation.

The unique functionality of the black boxes will enable verification of time and location of accidents, prove which vehicle was responsible for the event and even assess whether or not whiplash is likely to have occurred.

Brit has stated that by using the telematics technology in conjunction with driver training programmes fuel efficiency has been increased, lowering costs and carbon emissions. For an average vehicle this could amount to a saving £1,000 per year.

Ray Cox, the underwriting director for Brit Insurance in the UK, has stated that standing out from the crowd is a key part of the firm’s growth and that offering a new, practical and innovative risk management system will boost customer service.
