Talbot Underwriting has today announced two high profile appointments to its senior management, pending approval by Lloyd’s and the Financial Services Authority.
The announcement came via the board of directors, which named Michael Carpenter as the new chairman of Talbot Underwriting, and Rupert Atkin as new Chief Executive. Both of these appointments are from internal applicants, with both Carpenter and Atkin occupying senior positions prior.
The announcement is part of a wider management reshuffle within Talbot and its parent company, which is seen to reflect its commitment to growth and consistent performance, as well as to accommodate several key resignations from the top of the organisation. Both the FSA and Lloyd’s are expected to approve the appointments with no problems.
Michael Carpenter was formerly the chief executive of Talbot Underwriting, guiding the company through a prolonged spell of growth and development within the underwriting market. With relatively stable wider externalities, now is being seen as the best time to ring in the changes at Talbot with the minimum disruption, to facilitate vacancies at a higher level.
Rupert Atkin was previously in place as director of underwriting and will now succeed in Carpenter’s old role as chief executive. The reshuffle has been designed around David Newbigging’s decision to step down as chairman, along with fellow director Heidi Hutter and James Quinn who was also a member of the board.
From the previous board, Verner Southey and Tony Keys will remain in non-executive positions, with Carpenter and Atkin to accede with immediate effect to their respective positions within the management structure.
Speaking today on his appointment, Carpenter thanked the contribution of the departing members, and spoke of his pleasure at the prospect of working alongside what is shaping up to be a high profile management team at Talbot.
