BIBA launches Medical Malpractice Scheme

The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) has launched the BIBA Medical Malpractice Scheme, in a joint venture with FSJ, the UK wholesale division of Heath Lambert.

The scheme will provide members and their clients with access to competitive medical malpractice cover plus other enhancements and benefits.

FSJ has over 40 years of experience in placing cover for medical malpractice, which is a niche area of insurance in which the products are broadly similar.

The BIBA offering will cover as standard the following benefits, which are not widely available elsewhere: 15% commission; no premium restriction; European jurisdiction for UK clients; breach of confidentiality cover as standard; no AIDS exclusion; indemnity for nurses.

The cover is only available to BIBA members and as there is no minimum premium restriction, it can be used for clients of any size; quotes can be obtained within 24 hours, under normal circumstances.

Steve Foulsham, BIBA Technical Services Officer sees the policy as “providing a solution to what is often a difficult class of business to place”.

He believes it will be “a valuable resource for members and will create additional opportunities.”

Medical malpractice provider Marketform will be the preferred underwriter for the scheme.
