The Capita Group’s BDML Insurance Solutions division is launching Gadgetsafe, a new policy that provides cover for personal electronic devices.

The move is in response to the rapid change in lifestyle that has left many people increasingly dependent on mobile technology.

According to DBML large numbers of individuals are commonly carrying around gadgets that are worth up to £1,000.

When a family group travels on holiday, this figure can easily double, meaning that many home insurance policies do not provide a sufficient level of cover.

In addition DBML maintains that home insurance policies can have relatively high excesses and may not guarantee speedy replacement of what have come to be seen as essential items.

Gadgetsafe provides a 48 hour repair/replacement service and up to 60 days worldwide cover each policy year.

The policy costs £7.99 per month for three named items, or £9.99 per month for five named items.

Laptops, mobile phones, Blackberries, cameras, PDAs, Ipods and satellite navigation units are all eligible for the cover, which extends to accidental damage, theft and breakdown.

BDML is currently is discussion with a number of potential partners and in September will launch Gadetsafe with Atlas Direct, the travel insurer.
