Swinton acquires Rockford

Swinton Group has acquired Rockford Insurance Brokers, the commercial insurance broker. The move will enhance the group’s existing commercial division, Swinton Business.

Rockford, which has three offices in the north of England, was founded in 2001 and employs over 50 staff.

The firm has a premium income of £15 million and the acquisition is in line with Swinton’s strategy of expansion through highly strategic acquisitions; Rockford has developed a number of niche markets within the motor trade and education and medical sectors.

Swinton expects to exceed £100m GPI through its commercial business during 2009 and is seeking to acquire a significant number of additional commercial brokers.

The group has made over 250 broker acquisitions in the past five years. These include Vectis Insurance Services, acquired earlier this year, and the retail divisions of Budget and its4me, the on-line motor intermediary.

Rockford will be retaining all members of staff and will trade under its existing name for the foreseeable future.
